First Christmas

Family in front of tree

We had our first Christmas today! From left to right: Jonathan, Noelle, Sarah, Bethany, and myself.

In other news Bob asked me about my handspring so I decided to try a soft reset and it works! Guess I won’t have to buy a new one after all! I’ll make this one last until the Tungsten C is down to $150.

Looks like a solar flare erupted from the sun and is headed directly at earth. It will reach us Wednesday afternoon. It is classified as X17.2 (3rd largest solar flare in history). The largest observed in 2001 was an X20 but was not directed at earth. This is unusual because the sun normally follows an 11-year cycle between outbursts. The last peak was in 2000.

stupid looters. the fire is way east of us. Dad and I scouted out the fire after being warned of its approach but it looks like it won’t make it anywhere near our place. The homes in East Highland ranch looked threatened but I don’t think it’ll get to them. The IBC shelter is full. It looks like another fire is coming across another ridge but its a good distance from us and there’s nothing to burn behind our house anymore anyway.

Its dissapointing the lack of information we can get. The radio stations aren’t giving enough detailed information so its impossible to know what’s going on short of driving around to see where the fires are. I just found this website which is updated very often with the latest evacuation info.  IncidentControl.com

Yesensky Update:
Ben (5:54:17 PM): how close did it get?
Jeff (5:54:30 PM): across the street
Jeff (5:54:56 PM): the mountain in front of our house all got burned up
Ben (5:55:16 PM): … i’m glad you’re all right.
Jeff (5:55:26 PM): but looks like things took a turn for the better, and instead of swinging back our way, it went more west
