Update on Legal Mess:
To bring you up to date: Sco is mad because they are losing business because everyone is switching to Linux. SCO is suing IBM for $1 billion for possibly leaking the Unix code to Linux. SCO said that unless their sales go up they will sue Linus (inventer of Linux). Novell stepped up to put an end to this by telling Sco that they own the copyright to Unix.
Breaking News: Sco is now suing Novell for saying they own the copyright to Unix!

“Linux is an unauthorized derivative of Unix and that legal liability for the use of Linux may extend to commercial users.” –exerpt from a letter Sco sent to 15,000 companies.
Sco is suing IBM ($1 billion lawsuit) for leaking Unix source code to Linux Developers, although this has been going on for weeks and Sco hasn’t provided a shred of evidence.
In the middle of all this, Novell has released a statement that THEY OWN the copyrights to Unix.
I believe the truth is, Sco is jealous of IBM because Sco is not making any money on Sco Unix (why would you want to pay several thousands on Sco Unix when you could get Linux for free?) …instead Sco is relying on lawsuits for revenue.

This was really great software that just came out… AOL shut it down within a day. Waste

AT&T; has called consistently every evening for seven consecutive days despite requests to be taken off their list! I do not pay anything for my phone. Nothing. Just leave me alone. Much worse the telemarketers at AT&T; are not interested in purchasing my vintage floppy drives.

mk saw the matrix reloaded with me. i doubt very many people have the ability to notice this, but trinity roots a computer by using nmap (a favorite hacking/security tool) and an old ssh exploit. this is the first movie i’ve ever seen with a realistic hack. i would watch it again just to see that part a second time but unfortunatly the film contains too much sex to make it worthwhile.

Sorry about the power failure Meredith. I had the same thing kill my last uptime. 20 days, 3 hours, and 44 minutes since last extended power outtage.

According to this guy it looks like Microsoft was giving out illegal copies of their own software! This is hilarious.

March 27, 19:40: So I am working on a website at 7:40, then i see a flash and suddenly the only light in my room is the glow from my monitor and the LEDs from the server. Our transformer blew. I ran the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) battery down wuth my monitor being on too long while looking for a flashlight. About 10 minutes later I shoot off a few emails and shut the monitor off.
19:50: All secondary and backup servers power down. UPS1 is running low.
20:00: I turn the monitor back on…UPS 1 does not like that and shuts down immediatly while screaming in agony at me in its archaic beeping language. All power routed to UPS2.
20:10: Run down to church to pickup Noelle.
20:50: UPS2 gives up the ghost.
22:00: Its still dark
22:30: Sleep
March 28, 02:30 Power restored. I hear the servers coming back up with their lovely “beeps” but I am too tired to check them.
07:30: My shower is interrupted by a call from Jason. “Webmail is down.” I promise to check the server after clothing myself.
07:45: Everything is okay, a few DNS issues and the inet daemon (which calls the daemons to allow people to check email) forgot to wake itself up. But all critical daemons were functioning. So much for the uptime. Looks like Meredith will have me beat for quite awhile.

I do not like Java. It seems to me to have the most ridiculous installation process. I have to go to Sun’s website, agree with an agreement, download the files..and AAAH! they changed the JDKs around so they’re incompatible with the Java patches I have and they don’t have the old version. …errr. All i hear is, “Java is the future!” “Learn Java” …bah. Java is the slowest buggiest language i’ve ever come across.

Its saddening to know so many of our men are killed by “friendly” fire. Its a cold hard reality of war. If only we could use public/key technology for instant friend or foe identification.
