From the Your-Tax-Dollars-Wasted-Dept.
It looks like LA County Officials have banned the term, “Master/Slave” from use in computer hard drives and video equipment.

Under orders from the affirmative action office, county departments have surveyed about 1,000 pieces of equipment and taped over “master/slave” and put “primary/secondary” on the equipment, officials said.

This is just great news! For more information read the artical at the L.A. Daily News [dead link, no web archive].

The Falcon Mainframe crashed. It took about 40 minutes to bring her back up and another 20 to check her operations. Everything seems to be fine, a few minor glitches but nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow.

My uptime record is: 229 days, 20 hours, and 33 minutes.

The fire still rages elsewhere but its pretty much contained over here. Some of our friends lost their houses, James McDermith passed on to Glory, and smoke still fills the air. An amazement to me, which probably shouldn’t have been is the tremendous amount of offers for support that were given. My friends said they could put us up if we lost the house, and everyone east of California called to check in on us and pray for us. I really do appreciate all your prayers, and the help and hospitality you offered.

Looks like a solar flare erupted from the sun and is headed directly at earth. It will reach us Wednesday afternoon. It is classified as X17.2 (3rd largest solar flare in history). The largest observed in 2001 was an X20 but was not directed at earth. This is unusual because the sun normally follows an 11-year cycle between outbursts. The last peak was in 2000.
